Former Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Khiuju, who had taken a voluntary retirement from Nepal Police, has been arrested on the charge of rape.

The Metropolitan Police Range, Jawalakhel arrested Khiuju from Bhaktapur. Lalitpur Police Chief SSP Tek Prasad Rai informed that detailed investigation into the case is underway.

Khiuju has been kept in custody after being taken to Patan Hospital for a medical checkup.

The woman, who has accused Khiuju of raping her, had filed a police complaint stating that Khiuju had raped her in his office at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Chapagaun on 13 February, 2019.

As per the survivor’s police report, Khiuju had shut the door of his office under the pretext of drinking tea and raped her. She had visited the police station to make a police report.

The survivor has also claimed that Khiuju later blackmailed her with the photos of his first wrongdoing and continued to sexually abuse her. She said that Khiuju had sexually abused her for six months.

For a long time, no legal action was taken against Khiuju despite the survivor registering a police complaint at the police headquarters. Later, she filed a complaint at Lalitpur police office on 5 February with the help of an NGO and only then the police started to look for the former cop.

Kiuju was on the run ever since police obtained permission to arrest him on February 6.
