The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has arrived for a two-day state visit to Nepal at the invitation of President Ram Chandra Paudel.
President Ramchandra Paudel, along with other officials, welcomed the Qatari Emir at the airport. During the occasion, the Nepali Army offered a traditional 21-gun salute to the Qatari Emir.
The Nepali Army will assume the lead role in overseeing security measures throughout the Emir’s state visit, encompassing Tribhuvan International Airport, hotels, and designated travel routes.
Scheduled to be accommodated at Hotel Soaltee, the Qatari Emir is slated to engage in high-level meetings during his stay, including discussions with President Paudel this evening at Shital Niwas. On the second day he will engage in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, during which agreements in five different areas are expected to be signed, as per the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Qatar’s interest in Nepal extends to investments and labor agreements, particularly in sectors like hydropower and technology transfer. This visit marks the Emir’s first official trip to Nepal and is part of a broader tour of Asian nations, demonstrating Qatar’s commitment to regional engagement and cooperation.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s ambassador to Nepal, Mishal Bin Mohammad Ali Al Ansari, stated that the Emir’s visit will strengthen the relationship between Qatar and Nepal, expanding areas of mutual cooperation.
The Emir of Qatar embarked on an official visit to Asian countries on Sunday, including visits to the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
The Emir and his delegation are slated to depart at 2:00 PM on Wednesday. The government has declared a public holiday today for the state visit of the Qatar Emir.
