The electricity supply lines of the district party offices of Nepal’s major political parties were disconnected due to unpaid bills heaped for over six years in Baitadi, as per a report by the Rising Nepal.
TRN’s Baitadi correspondent reported that “according to Janardan Paudel, Chief of the Baitadi Distribution Center under Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), this measure was taken after the parties failed to settle their outstanding bills, flouting the mandated three-month payment window.”
The Nepali Congress (NC) faces a bill of Rs 41,000, CPN (UML) owes Rs 18,000, and CPN (Maoist Center) must clear Rs 47,000, tallying to a total of Rs 108,000 as per the tariff list of the Baitadi Distribution Center.
Similarly, Bhagwan Chand, Treasurer of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Users Committee, disclosed that the CPN (Maoist Center) failed to pay its dues amounting to Rs 8,000, despite repeated reminders, resulting in the disconnection of the water pipeline to their office.
Nepali Congress hasn’t connected their pipeline altogether, while CPN (UML) settles its bills on time.
Expressing discontent, locals have voiced their frustration over the negligence of major political parties in meeting their financial obligations promptly, emphasizing the need for accountability and responsible governance.
