People across Nepal are observing Rishi Panchami today, a religious festival dedicated to the worship of the Saptarishis (Seven Great Sages). The celebration, which falls on Bhadra Shukla Panchami, marks an important day for women who partake in the traditional rituals, which are believed to purify devotees from all sins.
Large numbers of devotees have gathered at sacred sites, including Risheshwar Temple in Teku and Guhyeshwori Temple, to offer prayers. The observance begins with a ceremonial bath, followed by worship of the sages Atri, Gautam, Bharadwaj, Jamadagni, Vashishta, Kashyap, and Vishwamitra, as well as Arundhati.
Rishi Panchami also marks the conclusion of the Teej fast, a significant festival for Hindu women. By observing these rituals, devotees believe they are absolved of their sins, gaining spiritual merit and blessings for their families.
