Victims affected by the Supreme Court’s recent decision on river standards in the Kathmandu Valley gathered at Maitighar to protest on Thursday. The court’s ruling mandated that an additional 20 meters be left untouched along the banks of rivers and streams, which has sparked widespread discontent among local residents.

The demonstrators demanded that the decision be reconsidered, claiming it unfairly impacts their properties. The protest follows the Supreme Court’s latest move where the case, scheduled for a hearing on Thursday, was placed under the ‘unable to see’ category.

Victims have formed a struggle committee, staging protests and calling for the cancellation of the court’s additional river standards. Their movement intensified after the Kathmandu Metropolitan City instructed compliance with the court’s order, which further agitated the victims.
