As a part of week long programme to celebrate World Environment Day 2024, the Solid Waste Management Association of Nepal (SWMAN) organized a “Prabhatferi” rally on Monday.
The event, starting from Jawalakhel with the original slogan “Our Land, Our Future,” concluded at the same location, passing through Pulchok, Magalbazar, Ititol, and Kumaripati.
World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5 since 1974, was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The origins of this global observance date back to the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1972. The inaugural celebration in 1974 carried the theme “Only One Earth,” a message that continues to resonate worldwide.
Over the years, countries around the globe have embraced World Environment Day, each hosting events and activities to highlight environmental issues and promote sustainable practices.
SWMAN is an umbrella organization for companies involved in garbage collection, road public space cleaning, waste reduction, organic fertilizer production, and final waste management in urban areas.
