People from Tharu and Magar communities are seen celebrating Maghe Sankranti at Tudhikhel, Kathmandu on 15 January 2023.

Maghe Sankranti or Makar Sankranti is one of the major festivals celebrated on the first day of Magh month as per Bikram Sambat (B.S.) calendar. Tharu people celebrate this particular day as new year.

On this day, people feast on food items including Chaaku (molasses), Tilauri and Til ko Laddu (a chewy candy made out of sesame seeds and sugar), ghee, khichadi, sweet potatoes, yam and spinach.
