Paralympic medalist Palesha Goverdhan welcomed back home

Paralympic medalist Palesha Goverdhan was given a warm welcome upon returning home to Nepal today. Goverdhan, who won a bronze medal in the women’s 57 kg K44 category by defeating Maria Missev of Serbia 15-8 at the Paris Paralympics, landed at Tribhuvan International Airport and was taken on a tour of the city. Her achievement is historic as she is the first Nepali athlete to win a medal in the Paralympics.

She was part of a rally that proceeded from the airport to the premises of the National Sports Council (NSC), passing through Gaushala, Old Baneshwar, Maitidevi, Dillibazar, Baghbazar, Bhadrakali, Sahidgate, and Tripureshwar Chowk. A welcome and interaction program was also arranged for her at the NSC.

Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary and National Sports Council Member Secretary Takalal Ghising were at the airport to welcome Palesha.

Palesha was also honoured by Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) amidst a special event, where she was honoured with a gift of NRS 500,000. The event was attended by KMC Mayor Balen Shah and Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol amongst other guests.
