Nepal is observing its 17th Republic Day today. A program was organized at Sainik Manch, Tundikhel to commemorate the 16 years of completion of the nation transitioning to a republic.
President Ram Chandra Paudel, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Speaker, Ministers, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, and high-ranking officials from various security agencies attended the programme.
This day holds historical importance as it commemorates the abolition of the monarchy following the people’s movement of 2062/063. The first meeting of the Constituent Assembly, elected through the Constituent Assembly elections, officially declared the end of the monarchy on May 28, 2008. Consequently, Republic Day is celebrated annually on May 28 to honor this day.
The celebrations featured displays of skill and artistry by the Nepali Army and Nepal Police.
