Indrajatra, one of the most celebrated festivals in the Kathmandu Valley, is being observed today. The festivities saw the participation of several high-profile leaders, including President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, and National Assembly Speaker Narayan Dahal at Basantapur, Kathmandu.
The main day of Indrajatra began on Sunday with the ceremonial raising of the Indradhvaja (Indra’s flag) at Hanuman Dhoka. The traditional Rath Yatra (chariot procession) will take place today in the lower town area while the Rath Yatra in the upper town is scheduled for Wednesday.
The Nanicha Yatra, a special procession led by women, will be carried out on Saturday, 21st September. On the same day, President Paudel is set to receive tika and prasad from the Living Goddess Kumari in the afternoon. After the ceremonial exchange of the Khadga (sword) with the Kumari, the festivities will continue, honoring long-held customs.
