Activist Iih protests against LMC’s decision to remove street vendors

Social activist Iih initiated a 108-hour protest Lalitpur Metropolitan City’s decision to remove sidewalk businesses, resulting in heightened tensions between locals and demonstrators.

The demonstration, staged in front of the Lalitpur Metropolitan City Office, witnessed clashes as locals tore down placards displaying slogans opposing the decision. Security personnel and local residents requested the demonstrators, including Iih to vacate the sidewalk, adding to the contentious atmosphere.

The root cause of the protest stems from Lalitpur Metropolitan City’s move to prohibit sidewalk shops in historically significant areas from December 10.

Iih has a track record of leading movements, including the “EnoughisEnough” protest against the government’s inadequate response to the COVID-19 crisis and campaigns for the rights of street vendors.
