Continuous rainfall over the past three days has caused widespread disaster incidents across Nepal, resulting in the deaths of at least 49 people. Among the casualties, 32 lives were lost in the Kathmandu Valley, specifically in Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, and Kathmandu. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bishwo Adhikari, co-spokesperson of the Nepal Police, reported that 34 people have been injured, and 40 remain unaccounted for.
The heavy rains have triggered floods, landslides, and erosion, blocking major highways in 44 locations across the country. The police, in coordination with multiple agencies, are conducting rescue operations. Over 1,000 people have been rescued so far, with 17 people injured and 12 missing from incidents in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur alone.
In total, 44 districts across the country have been affected by the disaster, with roads in 39 districts completely blocked. While efforts are underway to reopen blocked routes, domestic flights to and from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have only partially resumed.
Authorities have urged citizens in affected areas to contact their emergency hotline number, 1114, for rescue assistance.
