Nepal Airlines to operate flights from Gautam Buddha Airport from December

Starting from December end, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is prepped to conduct international flights from Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA).

Archana Khadka, the spokesperson of the NAC, said a task force led by the NAC’s Director Janakraj Khalakheti has been studying the various aspects of conducting flights from the GBIA. According to her, the destinations will be finalized after the panel submits its final report.

NAC is currently conducting international flights to eight destinations. The national flag carrier is currently equipped with two wide-body A-330S and two narrow-body A-320S.

Jazeera Airways has already been conducting flights from GBIA. Recently, after the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) made it a compulsion for chartered flights to operate from GBIA, Himalaya Airlines has flown from the airport on a daily basis.

Earlier this month, the CAAN made it mandatory for all those airline companies that conduct more than three flights daily from the Tribhuvan International Airport to operate their flight from the GBIA too. Two weeks ago, the CAAN suspended a NAC flight last minute leaving 254 passengers stranded in a bid to force the national flag carrier to operate from GBIA.

To facilitate air traffic from the newly built international airport, the authority has waived the landing fee, hangar charge, and security fee, among others, free of cost for airlines that conduct their international flights from the GBIA.
