Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, on Friday, departed Nepal to participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters in New York.

The Prime Minister will address the General Debate on September 26, which will revolve around the theme, “Leaving No One Behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations.”

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Oli will attend the Opening Session of the General Debate on September 24 and will be present at a reception hosted by U.S. President Joseph Robinette Biden on September 25.

During his stay in New York, the Prime Minister will address several high-profile events, including the “Summit of the Future”, where he will represent the Global Coordination Bureau of Least Developed Countries (LDCs). He is also set to speak at the “High-Level Plenary Meeting on Addressing the Existential Threats posed by Sea-Level Rise” and the “High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).”

On September 23, Prime Minister Oli will deliver a keynote speech at Columbia University on “Nepal’s Journey to Democracy and Economic Prosperity.” Following that, he will speak at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum on September 27, addressing “Nepal’s Prospective: From Transitional Justice to Climate Justice.”

The Prime Minister is also expected to meet UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and engage in bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the UNGA.

Accompanying Prime Minister Oli will be his spouse Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and other senior officials. The delegation is scheduled to return to Kathmandu on September 30.
