On 19th July, the Department of Revenue Investigation made a significant gold seizure weighing approximately one quintal (100 kilograms), which had passed through customs undetected.

The Department conducted a raid based on special information and confiscated the large quantity of gold. According to sources at Tribhuvan International Airport, the seized gold had arrived in Kathmandu on a Cathay Pacific flight on Tuesday. The smuggled gold was concealed within imported brake shoes for motorbikes and scooters.

Acting promptly on the tip-off received at 2 pm, a dedicated team from the Revenue Investigation Department carried out a targeted raid, leading to the successful seizure.

Three individuals were arrested in connection with the gold smuggling, and further investigations are currently underway to uncover more details about the smuggling operation, including its origin in Hong Kong.
