As today is the last Monday of the Nepali month of Shrawan, masses of Hindu devotees braved the coronavirus pandemic and congregated at the Pashupatinath Temple premises to pay respect to Lord Shiva this morning in Kathmandu.
Nepal recorded 1,793 new cases of coronavirus infection as of Sunday evening, taking the total caseload to 732,272.
Among those testing positive for the infection on Sunday, 739 were from Kathmandu valley — 522 from Kathmandu, 154 from Lalitpur and 63 from Bhaktapur.
There are 39,298 active COVID cases the country, of which 11,786 are in Kathmandu valley — 8,430 in Kathmandu, 1,386 in Bhaktapur and 1,970 in Lalitpur.
Similarly, 33 people succumbed to the virus on Sunday alone. With these fatalities, the number of people who have succumbed to the respiratory infection has advanced to 10,292.
Among the total dead, 95 were kids and teenagers; 318 people were of age group 20 to 29; 850 were in the age group 30 to 39; 1,472 in 40 to 49 age group; 2,028 in the age group 50- 59 and 5,522 people aged 60 and above.
Hospital beds are filling up fast across the nation with an incessant rise in the daily infections.
