At least 16 houses were swept away, two people have died, and 18 others are missing due to floods in two settlements along the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchowk district at around 1:00 am on Thursday.

Incessant rainfall has caused the water level in the Bhotekoshi River and local rivulets of Jambu, Bahrabise Municipality and Bulkute, Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality to rise to the danger level.

Fourteen houses were swept away in Barahbise Municipality-5 after floodwaters from the Almo Thado Khola and Kabre Khola entered the settlements at around midnight yesterday.

Eleven people were swept away from the area. Two bodies have been recovered.

Preparations are underway to airlift two children to Kathmandu for treatment after they were seriously injured due to the floods.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has issued a notice saying Province 1, Province 2, Bagmati Province and Gandki Province will receive record rainfall for this year from Thursday till Sunday.

The Authority has also warned of a possible surge in water-induced disaster in Koshi, Kamala, Kankai, Bagmati and Narayani rivers for the next three days.
