The Ministry of Health and Population has decided to deploy as many as 60 healthcare professionals from various hospitals to look after students who will be evacuated from China.
Spokesperson for the Ministry, Sagar Dahal, informed that the selected healthcare personnel are being provided an orientation at the Teku-based Epidemiology and Disease Control Division in Kathmandu.
The orientation will provide instructions to the healthcare personnel on how to take care of the China returnees, who might be infected by the novel coronavirus.
The team of healthcare professionals comprises medical officers, staff nurses, health assistants and paramedics.
As many as 180 Nepalis, mostly students, from Hubei have registered with the Nepali embassy in China expressing their desire to return home.
The city of Wuhan in Hubei is the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak. The Chinese government has imposed a lockdown on virtually all of Hubei province in the wake of the outbreak.
The date for the evacuation will be decided at today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, informed Dahal.
The government last week decided to quarantine Nepalis evacuated from China’s Hubei province at the Nepal Electricity Authority’s training centre in Bhaktapur.
