A standoff ensued in New Road after a team from Road Division’s Office began blacktopping a recently dug section in New Road. The road was dug as part of KMC’s initiative to broaden the footpath in New Road area, however Road Division, under whose jurisdiction the said road is under, maintains KMC does not have the required permission to do so.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City had begun digging the road last week to broaden the footpath. Meanwhile, Road Division had instructed KMC to halt the work, and to blacktop the sections that had been already been dug.

On Monday, after a team from Road Division arrived in New Road to blacktop the road, officials from KMC Metro Police confronted the ongoing work, ensuing a standoff between the two parties. Currently, officials from KMC Metro Police and Road Division are in discussions to solve the dispute.
