People from the Muslim community in Nepal celebrated Bakra Eid (Eid-al-Adha) today – 29th June 2023. The government has given a public holiday on this occasion.

Prayers were performed at Kasmiri Masjid, Durbarmarg, as shown in the photos. Built in the 15th century AD, it is one of the oldest mosques in Nepal.

The occasion serves as a remembrance of the sacrifice of the Prophet Ibrahim.

Within the Islamic community, individuals rise early in the morning, perform ablution, cleanse themselves, and gather at open areas or mosques to engage in prayer and extend warm greetings to one another. It is customary on this day to offer animal sacrifices such as goats, lambs, or buffaloes, upon returning home from the prayers.

The meat of the sacrificed animal is then divided into three portions: one for personal consumption, another for close friends, and the final portion is reserved for the less fortunate and those in need.
