Candidates in closed lists not allowed to participate in National Assembly election

The Election Commission (EC) has clarified in a press statement that candidates listed in the closed lists for proportional representation in the House of Representatives and provincial assemblies cannot participate in the upcoming National Assembly election scheduled for Thursday, January 25.

The EC emphasized that unless candidates’ names are removed from the closed lists in accordance with Clause 30(a) of the House of Representatives’ Election Act-2074 BS and a similar provision in the Provincial Assembly Member Election Act-2074 BS, they are ineligible for the National Assembly election.

As per the approved election schedule, the voter list for the National Assembly’s vacant seats will be made public on January 5. Following a two-day period for claims and objections to the published voter list, the final voter list is set to be released on January 7.
