The number of patients with dengue and scrub typhus infection has surged at the Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Teku.
According to hospital director Dr. Yubanidhi Basaula, the number of patients seeking treatment has surged over the past week, making it increasingly challenging to manage adequate beds for those in need.
Currently, 55 patients infected with dengue and scrub typhus are admitted, with the hospital receiving an average of eight new patients daily. Since mid-August, the hospital has treated a total of 195 dengue cases, 13 scrub typhus cases, and 71 snakebite victims.
Dr. Basaula expressed concern over the situation, warning that these infections can be fatal if not treated promptly. Although the hospital is authorized to operate 100 beds, it is currently equipped with only 85, further complicating patient management as demand rises.
