Four members of a family lost their lives in a landslide that struck Khojinim village in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-2, Taplejung district, last night.
Heavy rainfall since Wednesday night triggered the landslide, causing extensive damage to property and infrastructure in the region.
The victims have been identified as Ram Bahadur Limbu (69), his wife Jasmaya Limbu, and their daughters Ganga and Jamuna. The landslide also injured Yugen Limbu (40) and his daughter(3), who are currently receiving medical treatment.
In addition to the loss of lives, the floods have caused considerable damage to infrastructure. At least six bridges in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality were washed away, severely disrupting vehicular movement in rural areas. The District Police Office reported that various rivers in the region have overflowed, further exacerbating the situation.
The District Police Office of Taplejung has issued a high-alert warning to residents. They urge the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
