Kathmandu, September 4

Lalitpur Metropolitan City has provided time until Dashain to home and business owners to remove unauthorized structures. The owners of such constructions are given ultimatum till Dashain with warning to demolish structures built outside the original blueprint approved by the Metropolitan office.

Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan said that notice will be sent to vacate unauthorized structures and if the owners neglect the decision even after the end of Dashain festival, the metropolis will take action to remove such structures.

Lalitpur metropolis had earlier started to raze down unauthorized structures, after the landlords didn’t pay attention to the warnings but has stopped the act for time being to pursue through ‘legal methods’.

Mayor Maharjan said, “We will take action according to legal procedures and we will gradually remove unauthorized structures, keeping everyone’s interest in mind.”

“After meeting the landlords and businessmen, they have asked time till Dashain to remove the unauthorized structure. We are aware that small businesses should not be suppressed amid approaching Dashain festival.”
Mayor Maharjan says that the small businesses conducting their businesses in such illegal structure are asked to find an alternative place to do business. “By providing time, the metropolis believes that there will be no problem when the unauthorized structure is removed,” said Maharjan.

“Businesspeople should not come to the street because of the owner’s fault. We will remove the unauthorized structure only after completing legal methods and procedures,” he said.

Lalitpur Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan and Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah have been in close contact with each other for co-organized actions to remove illegal structures within the Kathmandu Valley.
