A new writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court, demanding action against the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane for allegedly misusing his Nepali passport.
On Sunday, Yuvraj Paudel filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court urging the court to take appropriate action against Lamichhane and demanding disclosure of Lamichhane’s travel details using the Nepali passport while holding status of US citizen.
Similarly, the petition has also demanded to revoke Lamichhane’s political rights as a Nepali citizen until the final verdict. If approved by Supreme Court, this will ban Lamichhane from contesting in the by-election scheduled for April 23.
Paudel stated that a writ petition was filed against Lamichhane as both Nepal Police and the Attorney General’s Office decided not to take action in the case of the misuse of the Nepali passport.
Earlier, a case was filed in the Supreme Court about the validity of his citizenship and passports and the Attorney General’s Office provided him a clean chit in the case of possession of dual passports.
Lamichhane, who was elected from Chitwan-2, lost his post as a lawmaker and Home Minister after being found that he had not reinstated his Nepali citizenship even though he had abandoned his status as a US citizen.
