Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, was arrested on Tuesday by a team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police at his residence in Bhaktapur.
CIB spokesperson and Superintendent of Police (SP) Hobindra Bogati confirmed the arrest and stated that Prasai is being charged with cyber crime.
The arrest comes a day after Prasai held a press conference where he alleged that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has an investment of nearly Rs 32 billion in a Cambodian telecom company. Prasai presented documents to support his claims, though their authenticity is yet to be verified.
Supporters of the CPN-UML and Prime Minister Oli have dismissed the documents as forgery, therefore questioning its validity.
