A youth, who was injured by police gunfire in Bara, has passed away from the injuries sustained.

The police opened fire to quell a gathering of municipality employees demanding a salary hike among other perks at the municipal office.

Expressing dissatisfaction with Mayor Kishori Prasad Kalwar’s alleged neglect of their issues, the employees, accompanied by the new Chief Administrative Officer Mahesh Mishra, engaged in clashes on Wednesday.

Police, citing the need to control the confrontation between the two parties, reported the necessity of using force.

According to District Police Chief SP Suresh Kafle, a 25-year-old named Laxmi Mukhiya was injured in the police firing and later died during treatment at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj.
