Will become mayor again if people and party wish, says Bidya Sundar Shakya as he presents progress report

Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Bidya Sundar Shakya has said that he could be re-elected as the mayor if the party and the people wished so. At a press conference held by KMC on Sunday, Mayor Shakya was asked by the journalists about his plans to run for mayor again.

In response, Mayor Shakya, who was elected from the CPN-UML, said that the party and public were evaluating whether he had fulfilled his responsibilities. “My re-election depends on these two factors. I would assume any responsibility that my party hands me,” he said.

He also expressed confidence said that that the party was evaluating his works in high regards as all works within the metropolis were being carried out with consensus from all sides. He also claimed that he had executed more duties than mentioned in his election manifesto.

Mayor Shakya also made public the progress details of the works done by KMC since he was elected. He informed that KMC had black-pitched 196.1 km of roads in the last four and a half years.

His progress report also states that ward number 3, 4, 9, 14, 18 and 26 had constructed new ward offices while ward offices of wards 2, 6, 12, 16, 20, 21, 22, 27, 29 and 31 are under construction. Similarly, eight ward offices — 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 15, 23 and 32 — have been upgraded.

He informed that free health check-ups had been conducted at the homes of 5,771 senior citizens and health insurance for senior citizens had been introduced during his tenure.

Stating that new health clinics have been established in seven wards including wards 2, 9, 11, 20, 21, 22 and 30 and health clinics have been brought in operation in all the wards of the metropolis, Shakya said that free kidney dialysis service had been started in Birendra Sainik Hospital with 10 beds.

He has also listed upgradation of government hospitals, construction of fire truck warehouse, construction of public parks, distribution of elderly and disability allowances, budget allocation to national sports clubs, and monetary donation to various organization as his achievements.
