After a stray bomb blasted at Tilagufa, Kalikot on Sunday, five children have suffered in the incident. Two children have died while three children have been injured.
As per the police, the bomb went off while the children were playing at a millet field in the area.
Kalikot District Police Office Chief Jayashwar Rimal said that the bomb may have been planted and abandoned during the Maoist insurgency period.
Rimal informed that the injured children were sent to Surkhet by helicopter as they could not be treated in the district hospital.
It has been 16 years since the decade-long civil war ended, however, the wounds caused by the Maoist conflict have not healed yet as the war-era arms and ammunition have not been managed and disposed properly.
Earlier on April 30, 2020 four children died when a stray bomb, abandoned by the Maoists during the insurgency period, exploded at Tribeni Rural Municipality, Rolpa.
Many similar incidents have occurred in past years and innocent people have to lose their lives even today.
