Police to release 73 people arrested in the Balkumari incident

Plans are underway to release the 73 individuals who were arrested during the protest at the Balkumari incident.

Initially, they were arrested on charges of burning a vehicle belonging to Minister Prakash Jwala, and vandalizing property.

Authorities have decided not to pursue charges against them, with Deepak Thapa, Additional Inspector General of Police, explaining that the decision is aimed at enabling the detainees to apply for jobs in the manufacturing sector in Korea through the Employment Permit System (EPS).

AIG Thapa stated that the release follows a general inquiry.

The incident unfolded when youths gathered in Balkumari to advocate for the inclusion of shipbuilding applicants in the Korean language test for the manufacturing sector.

The police’s use of force during the protest resulted in the deaths of 22-year-old Birendra Shah and 23-year-old Sujan Raut.
