Police arrest Krishna Bahadur Mahara in connection to gold smuggling

Nepal police has arrested Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the Vice President of CPN Maoist Center from Kapilvastu.

The arrest comes in the wake of a recommendation by a high-level inquiry commission tasked with investigating gold smuggling activities.

The commission had specifically advised that Mahara face prosecution in connection with the illicit trade. Acting upon this directive, the Ministry of Home Affairs instructed law enforcement agencies to initiate appropriate action against him.

The commission had previously interrogated Mahara as part of its inquiry process. Additionally, his son, Rahul Mahara, remains in custody awaiting trial related to the same case involving the smuggling of gold concealed within electronic cigarettes (Vapes).
