Pokhara Regional Int’l Airport receives its first international flight

Pokhara Regional International Airport (PRIA), after six months into operation, observed its first international commercial flight touch down on Wednesday.

A narrow-body A319 of Sichuan Airlines from Chhendu, China made its landing at the airport on Wednesday at 9:06 am.

This flight carried not only passengers but also athletes who are gearing up for the Nepal-China Dragon Boat Race Festival. Additionally, the aircraft accommodated a Nepali delegation, including the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, who has just returned from a visit to China.

The Nepal-China Dragon Boat Race Festival is scheduled to take place on June 23rd and 24th at Phewa Lake in Pokhara and is the first event of its kind in Nepal. The two-day event will include cultural performances and food exhibitions from both countries.

The Pokhara Regional International Airport has been in operation since January 1st, 2023, and the landing of an international commercial flight opens up new possibilities and opportunities for the region, boosting tourism and strengthening international connectivity.

It marks a significant step forward in the development of the airport and showcases the growing prominence of Pokhara as a key travel destination in Nepal.
