Nepali Congress to form an electoral alliance with ruling parties in upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections

Nepali Congress, on Monday decided to form an electoral alliance with the ruling parties in the upcoming federal and provincial elections. A central working committee meeting of the ruling Nepali Congress on Monday arrived upon a decision to the effect.

The five ruling parties of Nepal, who also jointly contested the local level elections in May, 2022 are Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal – Maoist Centre, Communist Party of Nepal – Unified Socialist, People’s Socialist Party and Rastriya Janamorcha. NC has said on Monday that they will begin dialogue with the ruling parties to arrive upon a constituency sharing module.

The federal and provincial elections of Nepal are projected to be held in November, 2022. The government is yet to finalise the dates. Nepal will vote 275 members to the federal parliament – 165 via single-member constituencies by first-past-the-post voting and 110 seats via proportional representation. Similarly, 330 seats will be contested in the seven provinces of Nepal by first-past-the-post and 220 by proportional representation.
