With the objectives outlined in the ‘Digital Nepal Framework 2076 BS’, the government is set to establish the National Cyber Security Center.

The decision to establish the Center was reached during a recent meeting of the Council of Ministers on January 23rd.

Anil Kumar Dutta, Joint-Secretary of the ministry and designated Center Chief, disclosed that the establishment process has entered its final phase. A specialized team comprising 12 members has been assembled to oversee the operations of the Center, with the office slated to commence operations imminently.

“As cyber insecurity escalates, coupled with a lack of widespread computer literacy and unregulated Wi-Fi accessibility, there’s a pressing need to streamline digital practices,” Dutta remarked.

The Center’s mandate includes conducting digital forensic investigations, spearheading research and development initiatives in cyber security, enhancing public awareness, and identifying and addressing cyber threats proactively.

Furthermore, the Center will operate round-the-clock surveillance on critical information infrastructures, conduct risk assessments of cyber incidents, and mobilize emergency response teams equipped with technical expertise to mitigate sudden cyber risks.
