National Assembly sends Citizenship Bill to Legislative Committee

Kathmandu, August 28

The National Assembly has sent the Citizenship Bill to the Legislation Management Committee for further discussion. The Bill was returned with a 15-point message from the President for reconsideration.

In the meeting of the National Assembly held on Sunday, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand presented a proposal that the legislation should be sent to the Committee. It was unanimously approved by the assembly, with the government and the ruling coalition backing down from their previous demand to discuss the Bill in the House.

The Committee will now discuss the Bill, prepare the report and submit it again to the Assembly for further discussion.

Unless otherwise ordered by the Speaker, the Bill can be moved 24 hours after the Committee prepares its report.

The next meeting of the National Assembly has been scheduled for September 1.
