Lalitpur Metropolitan City has started removing advertisements painted on building walls. The office had previously removed signboards, pamphlets, and hoardings as their ‘city beautification’ campaign.

Sitaram Hathechu, City Police Chief of Lalitpur Metropolis informed that advertisements painted on walls of houses along Jawalakhel, Ekantakuna, and Pulchowk have been removed since the campaign started on Monday.

“The metropolis had provided prior notice before removing such painted advertisement. Some have removed the advertisements themselves whereas the rest were removed by the metropolis,” he said.

He also stated that businesses have been allowed to place advertisements in spots designated by the metropolitan office.

He added that businesses have the right to advertise their business by any means possible but should not interfere with pedestrian movement and the cleanliness of the metropolis.

Meanwhile, the locals have argued that the wall painting is an advertisement done on private property and don’t understand the point of spending resources to remove such advertisements.
