Hospital halts services after death of patient sparks outrage; doctors assaulted

On Monday, tension gripped Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara following the unfortunate demise of 57-year-old Sukamaya Dura from Lamjung.

She had been rushed to the hospital that morning due to severe breathing difficulties. Allegations of medical negligence in her treatment, which led to her unexpected passing, and the hospital’s failure to provide timely updates on her condition have been raised by her family.

In response to potential threats against the medical staff, a substantial contingent of security forces has been deployed, as reported by the police. Hospital property was damaged and according to their Notice of Withdrawal of Services, doctors were assaulted in Hetauda, Dhangadi, Lamjhung, Chitwan, and Pokhara.

College of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (COMSTH) has issued a release stating to halt all the services including emergencies, until the government takes serious action.
