Government unveils draft bill to regulate social media sites

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has unveiled a draft bill aimed at regulating and managing social media sites.

The government is gearing up to present this legislation in the federal parliament, emphasizing the need to curb the incitement of violence and maintain religious harmony.

During an orientation organized by the Advertisement Board on Thursday, Joint-Secretary Netra Prasad Subedi of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology stated that the bill’s formulation was in response to requests from ordinary citizens and various stakeholders. According to Subedi, the public that the draft would soon be made available for feedback.

The proposed law is not limited to addressing concerns of incitement; it also aims to tackle advertisement regulation.
