Nepal has inaugurated its first ever unit dedicated to the psychiatric and mental well-being of teenagers within the premises of the country’s sole state-owned mental hospital.

Established through a collaborative effort between the mental hospital and the child rights-oriented organization CWIN Nepal, the adolescent mental health unit features 12 beds, specifically to the unique needs of young individuals grappling with mental health challenges.

The unit comprises six general beds and six semi-general beds, aiming to offer care to adolescents in need.

A team of 30 professionals, including psychiatrists, nurses, special teachers, and social workers will oversee the day-to-day operations of the unit.

Dr. Ananta Adhikari, Director of the hospital, emphasized the transformative impact of the adolescent mental health unit, highlighting its role in expanding the hospital’s services and delivering counseling and treatment to at-risk groups effectively.
