CIAA files case against 19 for illegal tree felling

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against 19 individuals, including eight forest officers from Kapilvastu.

The case, lodged at the Special Court, alleges corruption involving the unauthorized cutting of trees beyond permitted limits by Gautam Buddha Partnership Forest Management Committee .

Former District Forest Officer (DFO) Krishna Dutta Bhatta, Divisional Forest Officer Durga Bahadur Karki, and members of the Gautam Buddha Partnership Forest Management Committee Implementation Unit are among those implicated.

Mahendra Raj Wagle, Brahma Dev Mahato, and Hemraj Pandit face accusations of facilitating the illegal felling of trees.

The CIAA asserts that this activity has inflicted a loss of NPR 2.9 million on the state coffers.
