Birthing center in Siraha operating under grave conditions

The Golbazar Municipality-6 birthing center has been in a dilapidated state for four years, and poses risks to newborns and mothers.

Senior ANM Mishri Kumari Shrestha revealed the challenges, including leaky roofs during rains, heat in summer, and the threat of snakes due to wild grass.

According to her, despite informing Golbazar Municipality Mayor Sham Kumar Shrestha, no solutions have been implemented as of yet.

ANM Sabita Shakya Panjiyar said health workers have been operating in practically a vulnerable hut. The center had lost a bed due to road expansion.

Chief of Golbazar Health Post, Satya Narayan Yadav stated, “It is difficult for pregnant women to step inside the hut, especially during labor pain. Delivery is affected by the skimpy space. The two birth attendants find it tough to arrange essentials to conduct deliveries.”

He further stated that there is a sewage drain near the center’s gate. Anyone visiting the center would have to make way through unsanitary conditions.
