Bhutanese Refugee Scam: Arrested accused to testify in court today

The arrested accused in the high-profile Bhutanese refugee scam will testify before the Kathmandu District Court on Friday.

The District Attorney’s Office Kathmandu filed cases against 30 people in the court on Wednesday. Although 16 of them have been arrested, 14 other accused are currently on the run.

Police have made exemplary arrests of high-level officials including former Deputy PM Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand and former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey.

According to the Attorney’s Office, the overall process of taking testimony from the accused will take around two weeks.

Meanwhile, Kathmandu Police Range Chief SSP Dan Bahadur Karki said that the accused have named more top officials in the case and the Police will continue their investigation into the case while the arrested are prosecuted.
