80 percent Proportional Representation votes counted so far

Almost 80 percent of votes cast in the November 20 election under the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system of the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly (PA) has been counted so far.

Shaligram Sharma Paudel, the Election Commission spokesperson, informed that the process to enter the details about PR votes counted so far in the information system of the EC and that of the office of the chief election officer is underway.

There were 17.98 million eligible voters for the November 20 election of the member of the HoR and the PA, according to the EC. Given the EC’s preliminary estimate that voter turnout was 61 percent, and now 80 percent of that counted, it comes out that about 2.4 million votes remain to be counted under the PR category.

It is said that the final result of the vote count of those constituencies where the counting is going on will be announced by Monday.

The vote count of Bajura is yet to be started as the re-voting was conducted in Nandeshwari Mavi, Pipalchaur polling centers on November 26.

As the ruling parties and the opposition have locked horns in dispute, the EC decision is awaited on whether to conduct re-voting or go ahead with counting in Syangja-2 and Dolakha.
