Over the past 11 months, a total of 109 wild animals, which included 22 one-horned rhinos and three tigers, have perished in Chitwan National Park (CNP). During the same period, a total of 117 wild animals were successfully rescued.

According to CNP authorities, 71 of the wild animals died of natural causes, such as aging, illness, and attacks from other animals. Additionally, 26 animals fell victim to attacks by dogs, two were electrocuted, one died from in-fighting, one was killed by poaching, one was swept away, and another one got trapped in quicksand.

Furthermore, the causes of death for two animals remain unconfirmed, while three others died due to different reasons. Out of the deceased rhinos, 13 were discovered in Nawalparasi and nine in Chitwan district.

All three tiger deaths occurred naturally. According to Ganesh Tiwari – Information Officer at CNP – currently, 128 tigers reside in the national park.
