Supreme Court halts decision to dismiss Dhaka Kumar Shrestha from party and lawmaker position

The Supreme Court (SC) has sought clarification from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) regarding its decision to dismiss lawmaker Dhaka Kumar Shrestha from the party.

A single bench of SC Justice Til Prasad Shrestha on Monday issued a show cause notice, ordering both sides to be present before the court for further discussions.

With this decision of the court, Shrestha’s position as a lawmaker will remain intact for now.

The Central Discipline and Conduct Committee of RSP has dismissed Shrestha and removed him from the position of a lawmaker for his alleged involvement in bribery after an audio conversation revealed Shrestha demanding Rs 2 crores from businessman Durga Prasai to help Shrestha become Health Minister.

Meanwhile, Shrestha defended himself stating that the accusation against him is a conspiracy to create a bad reputation and moved to the Supreme Court claiming that the actions taken against him were illegal.
