Supreme Court rejects Sandeep Lamichhane’s petition to lift ban on foreign travel

Supreme Court has negated the petition of Sandeep Lamichhane, demanding to lift the ban on him from going abroad and be allowed to play tri-series cricket matches in the UAE.

Lamichhane, who is accused of raping a minor, is currently out on bail but the Patan High Court has restricted him from going abroad.

In order to challenge the decision of the high court, the legal advisor of Lamichhane, Saroj Krishna Ghimire, filed a petition at the Supreme Court.

During the hearing, Ghimire argued that Lamichhane should be allowed to play abroad representing the nation and even presented a photograph of PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal shaking hands with cricketer Lamichhane.

Nonetheless, a single bench of justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada ruled against the favour of Lamichhane and has even ordered the hearing on Sunday of a petition filed by the government against the order of the High Court.
