April 19: Nepal’s Immigration Office has repealed an advisory that suggested tourists coming to Nepal to carry cash for smooth facilitation of the “On Arrival Visa”.
On Sunday, the airport immigration office had published a notice saying that there was a problem with the electronic payment service and that tourists should bring $200 in cash for an “on-arrival visa.” Now the very provision of carrying cash has been repealed after widespread criticism of the advisory.
The immigration office, rather than working on channels to ease the burden faced by foreigners arriving in Nepal, had published a notice requesting foreigners to carry 200 dollars to pay the on-arrival charge, adding another hassle. Now, they have begun the work of installing new ATMs along with POS machines. This is what the office should have done earlier rather than issuing such an unscientific and irrelevant notice to cope with the situation.
On Monday, the immigration office started the work of building a new ATM machine for Rastriya Banijya Bank at the airport.
According to the immigration office at the airport, two ATM machines and two POS machines of Rastriya Banijya Bank are being added at Tribhuvan International Airport for the convenience of foreign tourists.
Earlier, a single Prabhu Bank ATM machine served the arrival section of the airport, and problems arose after the machine stopped reading MasterCard.
