Aawaaj Collaborations
This collaboration, made possible with the financial support of WaterAid Nepal, explores Nepal’s sanitation landscape across the entire value chain — from budget utilisation and infrastructure gaps to wastewater dumping and the operational status of treatment plants. Alongside exposing systemic challenges in Kathmandu Valley, Lahan, Golbazar, and Biratnagar, Aawaaj also highlights progress in certain cities like Biratnagar, Kirtipur and Kathmandu, where improving fecal sludge management systems demonstrate the potential for sustainable, equitable, and citywide inclusive sanitation solutions.
Made possible with the financial support of WaterAid Nepal, this collaboration examines the state of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) across Nepal’s healthcare institutions, uncovering gaps in safe water access, sanitation systems, hygiene practices, waste management, and compliance with national standards. Through field reporting and visual documentation spanning Bardiya, Morang and Kathmandu, Aawaaj News and Research highlight the urgent need for dignified, safe, and patient-centred WASH environments in healthcare facilities.
Aawaaj’s Menstrual Health Management series investigates the socio-cultural, infrastructural, and policy barriers that shape menstrual health in Nepal. By documenting lived experiences, facility limitations, and community responses, the coverage advocates for menstrual dignity, improved access to safe hygiene resources, and the integration of menstrual health into broader public health and gender-equity agendas.
Working together with the Ganesh Man Singh Foundation, Aawaaj News and Research’s Democracy Series reflects on Nepal’s long and contested journey towards achieving democracy, showing how democratic values are continually challenged yet safeguarded through resistance. By tracing Ganesh Man Singh’s life across key historical turning points, from the pre-Rana era to the 1990 People’s Movement, the series explores Nepal’s socio-
political evolution and demonstrates how past democratic struggles illuminate the challenges democracies continue to face today.
