Youth gathered in Maitighar Mandala to protest against the government’s decision to ban TikTok on Monday afternoon. Carrying banners containing slogans such as ‘Pay attention to the Jajarkot’s Quake victims not TikTok’, ‘Where are my rights?’ ‘Revoke the TikTok ban, end corruption,’ and ‘Stop tyranny’, they argued that the government’s decision to ban TikTok is against their freedom of expression.

On 13th November, 2023, a cabinet meeting decided to ban social media platform app TikTok citing ‘disruption in social harmony’ as the cause. As many as ten petitions have been filed against the ban in the Supreme Court, including one by Senior Advocate Dipesh Tripathi. However, no hearing could be conducted on the writ petition against the decision on Monday owing to other proceedings.
