Scrap traders in Kathmandu have continued their protest against the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s decision to remove the garbage collection center from the Ring Road. The demonstrations, which began on Sunday, escalated on Tuesday when clashes broke between the traders and police near the metropolitan office.
The protest intensified as traders rallied towards the metropolitan office, resulting in a confrontation with the police. During the clash, protesters pelted stones at the police, who responded by charging the crowd with batons.
KMC after announcing its intention to remove the garbage collection centre, had bulldozed the premises. Meanwhile, scrap traders maintain that their businesses are legally registered, and the removal of the garbage collection centre is an attempt to displace their business practice.
